LoMTools
Update
I've concluded my communications with Staff/GMs about
the posting of LoMTools URLs on these forums. The answer was
unfortunately as expected a resounding "no".
This
leaves us with a bit of a catch 22, whereas they don't want to
have ppl post links to "unverified external programs", by
barring these links from the forums the program spreads
uncontrolled by the author (myself) around the net. Ppl are
unable to determine the valid sites and mirrors to download
from, thus increasing the chance they may get a copy with a
free trojan, exactly what the staff were trying to prevent.
The best advice I can give is to ensure the
download you get of LoMTools is v2.0.007, and that the
downloaded file is called "LoMTools v2.0.007.exe" and has an
MD5 signature of 86E1-04FB-B4F0-C1DA-87D5-048A-B83C-DE20.
I will leave it to yourselves to find the program on
the net, if you wish to communicate with myself about it, the
ONLY other LoM forum I frequent as Walrus is TotalFormat.com.
Needless to say I'm dissapointed with the decision,
whereas I wasn't expecting blanket approval of the program, it
would have been nice to have seen "nice program we can't
strictly approve, but change this/these elements and we shall
allow a forum link".
I shall be monitoring closely
when v2.0.008 is released to see how many times it is
downloaded. Of the 300+ ppl using v2.0.007 I would expect a
good majority to update. Of course, if the denial of access
from these forums significantly affects these figure I shall
have to seriously consider scrapping the whole thing and
moving the time used on LoMTools to new coding projects.
I can't really see the issue with the current program,
barring the Inventory viewer, which has always caused some
"hot debate", to be perfectly honest the information stored in
inventory files shouldn't be there anyway, but seeing as it is
my intention was to make sure it was visible to all and not
just a elite minority who figured it out.
The map and
object viewer are "grey areas", but I wonder just how many fan
site graphics and avatars have been made from these and
similar tools.
Anyway, this thread will be pretty much
the last you hear of LoMTools from myself on these forums,
barring a change of heart from Staff/GMs.
Thank you
all for your support to date.
